Meat

‘We’re made to eat meat, it’s a biological thing.’
‘Its part of being a man to eat meat.’
‘Its healthy.’
‘They’re only animals.’
‘It’s not something that bother’s me.’

Despite popular opinion to the contrary very few people eat fresh meat. The flesh of a recently killed animal, like any deceased being, is afflicted by rigor mortis. We do not have strong enough teeth for such activity. What we consume is more aptly described as carrion, or rotting meat. It is the activity of microbes, including their process of waste management, which softens meat enough for human consumption.

An economic analysis must include the case that an acre of land will feed two meat eaters or twenty people who don’t.

Morally, eating meat is akin to murdering the sentient beings we share this Earth with. There really isn’t a different way of looking at it.

Health wise the gradual consumption of meat contributes to your death far more than the gradual consumption of vegetables.

Contemporary techniques mean being a vegetarian is far easier than it used to be. Not liking vegetables is no longer a rational defence to eat meat.

Why don’t we associate the innocuous Sunday Roast with the suffering and cruelty that makes it possible?

There are two reasons to eat meat:
Your physical survival depends on it. (Becoming much rarer.)
You are controlled more by culture and environment than you are by your thought processes. (Remains largely the same.)

Heifer whines could be human cries
Closer comes the screaming knife
This beautiful creature must die
This beautiful creature must die
A death for no reason
And death for no reason is MURDER

And the flesh you so fancifully fry
Is not succulent, tasty or kind
It’s death for no reason
And death for no reason is MURDER

And the calf that you carve with a smile
Is MURDER
And the turkey you festively slice
Is MURDER
Do you know how animals die ?

Kitchen aromas aren’t very homely
It’s not “comforting”, cheery or kind
It’s sizzling blood and the unholy stench
Of MURDER

It’s not “natural”, “normal” or kind
The flesh you so fancifully fry
The meat in your mouth
As you savour the flavour
Of MURDER

NO, NO, NO, IT’S MURDER
NO, NO, NO, IT’S MURDER
Oh … and who hears when animals cry ?
