If I am to stay here
I would it were
A place of nurture.
That cherished
The little I have.
Before toast and tea
There is time for indecision
But habit wins out
And I am certain to stay,
If I may.
Yet I am not
Sure if I have
Been invited.
Instead am I
An awkward guest
Whose place you set
But reluctantly.
And would it have been
Worth it all,
After sewing shirt buttons
And slurping tea
To proclaim a love for you?
Would you have listened?
Would you have believed?
For I am not sure
It is not a lie.
So, leaving would be best.

It would be best.
