Vague

Strangers at their age
When they met
So much farther down the line.
At one time
There was no doubting
Their brothers bond.
For they would protect the other
With nature’s tenacity.
But then with time
Distance grew
And words once graciously promised
Faded, to be lost
As childhood embarrassments.
Once they counted,
Now they were trampled
On – by business handshakes;
Animosity; and vague recollection
Of something more.
